Recent News About The Shipyard Littlehampton
The premises in Littlehampton owned for many years by David Hillyard Ltd have recently changed hands. The company built classic wooden craft on the west bank of the river Arun from 1923 until they ran into difficulties with a number of large contracts, necessitating the sale of the premises. The new owners aim to continue providing moorings and storage for yachts and motor cruisers, and have made an agreement with the owners of the premises next door (formerly rented by David Hillyard Ltd) to operate the sites as one complex
Barely a month into the new agreement between the owners of the two sites one of the main sheds was attacked by arsonists. The shed housed five craft; one being worked on by the owner, and four part completed Sadler 290 hulls. Two hulls were a write off, and the other two smoke damaged but repairable. The police investigation has yet to uncover the identity of the arsonist, but the enquiry is still ongoing
The fire damaged shed at The Shipyard is at last being repaired. The damaged craft have been removed and a new roof is being installed. The premises should be ready for occupation by early June, and bids for renting the shed or storing boats under cover are welcome.
The well known Marine Engineering and Shipwright business Aruncraft is back in operation at The Shipyard. Their capabilities are shown on a separate page on this site, and they would welcome any enquiries for new business.
